PINE RIDGE, S.D. — The 27th Annual Black Elk Memorial Ride, also known as the “Warrior’s Ride for Justice,” will take place Saturday, Aug. 8, bringing riders together to honor loved ones, pray for families and strengthen community bonds.
The memorial ride honors the lives of Wilson “Wally” Black Elk, Tom Poor Bear, David “RC” Janis, Mike Grubb, Kyla Red Bear, Cole Brings Plenty, Tom Thunder Hawk and Victorine Middle Tent. Organizers describe the event as a day of remembrance for those who have passed on to the spirit world, while offering support and prayers for their families and friends.
Participants will gather at Camp Justice, located two miles south of Pine Ridge on Highway 407, with a prayer and ceremony beginning at 10:30 a.m. before the ride departs. The route will travel through the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, passing through parts of the Badlands before concluding at the J Bar/Flying J Truck Stop, where riders will share a meal and fellowship.
Organizers say the event is open to everyone and invite all riders to join them in honoring those who are “gone but not forgotten.”
Additional event information is available on the ride’s official Facebook event page: 27th Annual Black Elk Memorial Ride Facebook Event.
