RAPID CITY, S.D. — Pixie has been waiting for a home for months, and her story is one that is hard to forget.
When Pixie first came to A Place for Meow Rescue about five months ago, she was in rough shape. Much of her hair was gone, and her small body was covered in scabs, lesions, and open wounds. At first, it was believed she may have been the victim of abuse. Instead, it turned out to be an autoimmune disease that is not contagious and can be managed with a simple, inexpensive medication.
Within days of starting treatment, Pixie began to improve. Over time, her fur came back, her skin healed, and she started to look like a completely different cat. Today, you would never guess what she had been through just by looking at her.
What never changed was her personality. Even at her worst, Pixie stayed gentle, affectionate, and trusting. She leans into pets, settles into laps, and soaks up attention any chance she gets. She especially loves being scratched and will happily stick around if there are treats involved, with Churu at the top of her list.
She does well around other cats and is patient with children, making her an easy fit for many homes. Rescue staff say Pixie has done all the hard work. She fought through her condition, healed, and kept her kind nature through it all. Now she is just waiting for someone to see her and give her a place to stay for good.
Pixie is available for adoption through A Place for Meow Rescue. You can learn more at www.aplaceformeowrescue.org or visit them on Facebook by searching A Place for Meow Rescue.
