For years, the members of BitterSweet stood in the crowd at Summer Nights, soaking in the music, the energy and the memories that have made the downtown concert series a summertime tradition in Rapid City. Next week, they’ll finally experience it from the other side of the stage.
It’s a milestone the band has dreamed about for years.
“I’ve been attending this event for years with my family and have made many beautiful memories at Summer Nights,” the band shared. “As a musician, I have always admired players who have the guts and motivation to seek higher platforms to deliver their craft. I’ve seen many great performances at Summer Nights from the crowd and daydreamed of what it must be like to actually be on that stage.”
Now, that dream is becoming reality.
“To finally get that opportunity is surreal and electrifying,” they said. “It is also a personal marker of all the hard effort I’ve poured into my own craft.”
For those experiencing BitterSweet for the first time, fans can expect exactly what the band loves to deliver: authentic, high-energy rock with a whole lot of heart.
“We like to describe our sound as raw, upbeat rock ‘n’ roll,” they said. “We hope that people feel joy from our performances and have the desire to smile, dance and remember the moments forever.”
Summer Nights has long been known as an event where families, friends and visitors gather to enjoy live music together, and BitterSweet believes that atmosphere is exactly where they belong.
“Honestly, no,” they said when asked if the unique audience changes how they approach their show. “This is the type of event that we are built for.”
“Our set list and stage show are meant for fun-loving people with a desire to let loose and be in the moment with their loved ones. We keep it clean enough so that all types of people can enjoy the songs, but we still add in some punch and grit. It is still rock ‘n’ roll.”
While this may be their Summer Nights debut, BitterSweet has spent years building a loyal following throughout the Black Hills by focusing on something more meaningful than simply playing music.
“We really care about what we do,” the band said. “We love to meet people and create real joy and connection with those who take the time to listen. We are genuine. This isn’t a job or a hobby, it’s a lifestyle, an experience.”
That authenticity has fueled the band’s evolution over the years.
“BitterSweet has evolved from a solo project quietly in the corner of bars and restaurants, to a unique, raw acoustic rock duo playing senior centers to private wedding events, into a full electric four-piece band playing music festivals and world-famous stages.”
For anyone wondering what moment of the performance they’re most excited to share, the answer is simple.
“That moment comes with the first note and rides to the last.”
Looking ahead, BitterSweet has no plans of slowing down after their Summer Nights appearance. The band has its sights set on creating original music while continuing to make meaningful connections with audiences wherever they perform.
“We will be pushing to develop original music, connect with the people that need to hear it, and continue to lift up the world through song.”
It’s a fitting mission for a band making its long-awaited Summer Nights debut. For BitterSweet, this week’s performance isn’t just another stop on the calendar, it’s the realization of a dream years in the making. And if their enthusiasm is any indication, downtown Rapid City is in for an unforgettable night of raw rock ‘n’ roll, heartfelt performances and the kind of genuine connection that has defined the band from the very beginning.
