BOX ELDER, S.D. — Residents are invited to take part in the annual “Cleaning Up The Box” community cleanup event on May 29, aimed at beautifying the city while supporting local organizations.
The event begins at the Box Elder City Hall Community Center, located at 420 Villa Drive. Doors will open at 8 a.m. with a safety briefing scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Participants will then head out in teams to clean assigned areas throughout the community before returning around noon for a free lunch.
City officials encourage co workers, families, friends and individuals to participate, noting that all ages are welcome.
New this year, roll off dumpsters will be available in the City Hall parking lot for public disposal through a community donation effort. Residents bringing items for disposal are asked to donate non perishable food items to the Douglas School Pantry or make a monetary donation to the Black Hills Children’s Museum Box Elder project. Organizers said no donation will result in no dumping access.
Public disposal hours are scheduled for Friday, May 29 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, May 30 from 8 a.m. until noon or until the dumpsters are full.
Accepted materials include general trash, furniture, mattresses, electronics and scrap metal. Yard waste, tires and appliances will not be accepted.
The event is sponsored by several local businesses and organizations, including Black Hills Energy, West River Electric Association, Black Hills Federal Credit Union, Sentinel Federal Credit Union, Texas Roadhouse and others.
