STURGIS, SD – The St. Thomas More-Rapid City Christian Cavalier boys and girls soccer teams won both games of a twin bill over the Sturgis Scoopers at Woodle Field on Tuesday evening.

In the boys opening match, Scooper forward Jaxon Dodson netted a goal just eight minutes into the first half, giving Sturgis a 1-0 lead.

Owen Albers scored the equalizer for the Cavs with 19:33 left in the half to tie the game at 1-1.

Neither team could find the back of the net until midway through the second half, as Brayden Stalley put the Cavs up 2-1 with a goal with 18:23 remaining. The score held and St. Thomas More – RC Christian won the boys match.

In the nightcap, the Scooper girls had more shots on goal than the Cavaliers in the first half but Sturgis couldn’t put a shot past the goalkeeper. With time running out in the first half, Monica Moran shot the ball high and Scooper keeper Brinley Christianson got a glove on the ball but it spun over her head and into the goal, giving the Cavs a 1-0 lead headed into intermission.

In the second half, Cory Cammack was given her second yellow card of the match with 25:37 left, which meant she was disqualified and had to leave the field. Since the two yellows meant a red card, Cammack could not be replaced so the Sturgis girls had to continue the match one player down.

The Scooper offense kept the pressure on the STM-RCC defense but still couldn’t score and the Cavs won the match, 1-0.

The Sturgis boys fell to 2-5 on the season and the girls dropped to 1-5. Both soccer teams are in action next on Thursday as they host Douglas-New Underwood at Woodle Field.
