RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Central varsity baseball team split a four-game weekend slate, sweeping both games on Saturday against Redfield and Groton before dropping two games to Aberdeen on Sunday.
Central Cobblers showed resilience in its opener Saturday, rallying from an early deficit to defeat Redfield 12-6. After falling behind 6-2 in the third inning, Central surged ahead with a five-run sixth inning to take control.
Farnsworth led the comeback effort, driving in four runs on two hits and drawing multiple walks. Mailloux delivered a key two-run double in the sixth, while Gregory provided strong relief on the mound, striking out seven over four scoreless innings.
Central followed with another offensive outburst in the second game, defeating Groton 12-7 behind a dominant performance from Solano. Solano collected four hits, including two doubles, and helped power a 13-hit effort by the Cobblers. Kogel added a three-run home run in the fifth inning to extend the lead. Making it his first ever varsity Home run.
Farnsworth also contributed on the mound in relief, striking out six over more than five innings to secure the win.
The momentum did not carry into Sunday, as Central fell to Aberdeen 12-2 in the first game. Aberdeen used a four-run second inning and continued to build its lead behind a 12-hit performance. Central managed just four hits, with Mailloux accounting for the team’s lone RBI.
In the weekend finale, Central again struggled to contain Aberdeen, falling 11-3 despite a strong showing from Solano. Solano recorded three doubles and finished with three hits, but Aberdeen capitalized on early scoring and aggressive baserunning, including multiple stolen bases, to pull away.
Central recorded nine hits in the loss and played close to error-free defense, but Aberdeen’s balanced offensive attack proved too much.
Farnsworth, Solano and Mailloux were consistent contributors throughout the weekend, helping lead Central’s offense across all four games.
Central returns to action Tuesday with a home game against Stevens.
