RAPID CITY, SD – South Dakota Mines student-athlete Augustus Fink capped off a standout indoor season by securing a ninth-place finish in the weight throw at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Fink, an industrial engineering major from Three Lakes, Wisconsin, entered the national stage after a season of consistent progression in Rapid City. He qualified for the championships by recording a career-best mark of 20.34 meters earlier in the year, which ranked as the 16th-best distance in the nation for Division II.

The sophomore’s momentum built throughout the winter, highlighted by a conference title. Fink earned the top spot at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championships, taking home the gold in the weight throw. At the national meet, he remained consistent with the leaders, posting a mark of 20.17 meters to claim ninth place.

The success has transitioned directly into the outdoor season for the Hardrocker standout. Fink has already collected eight top-five finishes this spring. His performance is headlined by a career-best 59.04-meter hammer throw achieved at the Grubby’s Easter Classic held in Rapid City.

Fink currently represents the most significant athletic success for the South Dakota Mines track and field program this season as he continues to climb the ranks of the school’s all-time performance lists.
