ABERDEEN, SD – The team behind the Aberdeen based fitness brand Massenomics has officially entered the tech sector with the launch of Gym Radar, a digital platform designed to map the global lifting community while providing a massive database for equipment reviews.
The new venture marks a significant expansion for the company founded in 2014, which already operates a podcast with over 500 episodes, an apparel line and a physical gym in Aberdeen. According to Tanner Baird of Massenomics, the idea for Gym Radar evolved from a basic map the team previously maintained to highlight home gyms.
“We had a realization that if we could take our basic map, and turn it into a useful site that highlights home gyms, the community, and the equipment – that we could have something special,” Baird said.
The transition from content creation to a database-driven web application required a significant investment of time and resources. Baird noted that building a full web app from the ground up was a unique challenge

“Creating a full web app from the ground up was a completely unique experience.” Said Baird, “We had to devote a lot of time and resources to that. We were really fortunate to have the right connections already formed from the Massenomics community to help us get that done. Even that hurdle was able to be tackled with help from this community!”
The platform has seen immediate traction since its debut. Within the first two weeks of the launch, Gym Radar reached 1,000 registered users and populated a database of 5,500 pieces of gym equipment. Users have already contributed 10,000 individual reviews to the site.
“These unbiased community sourced reviews are one of the coolest parts about the site,” Baird said.
For the fitness community the platform offers a way to discover both commercial and private training spaces. Baird believes the tool will change how local lifters engage with one another.
“Commercial gyms are able to use the site to promote their space, and home gym owners are able to use Gym Radar to make more informed gym equipment buying decisions than they ever have been able to before,” Baird said.
The growth of the searchable map allows users to see new training locations as they pop up in their specific geographic area. The Massenomics team views the platform as a way to tie their decade of experience in gym tours and equipment analysis into a single, interactive resource. “There are more home and commercial gyms popping up on the map all the time.” Said Baird. “It’s a fun feeling when you see a new one pop up on the map close to your area.”
