RAPID CITY, S.D. — As Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial start of summer across the Black Hills and South Dakota, The HomeSlice Media Group and The HomeSlice Cast is inviting listeners to roll the windows down, turn the volume up and relive some of the biggest songs from decades past with a special programming event called the “Summer Mixtape Rewind.”

Beginning Memorial Day Weekend, each HomeSlice radio station will spotlight a different year or era in music, giving listeners a soundtrack filled with nostalgia, memories and iconic summer hits.

Listeners tuning into 93.9 The Mix will take a trip back to 1997, while Real Rock 100.3 The Fox rewinds to 1985, a year widely regarded as one of the most influential years in rock music history.

Meanwhile, HOT 93.1 will feature the songs of 2004, bringing back the era of flip phones, burned CDs and some of the biggest pop hits of the early 2000s.

Country fans will also get their share of nostalgia throughout the weekend. KAT Country 98.7 will celebrate the country hits of 2010, while The Cowboy KKLS will lean into what many consider the golden era of country music with a full weekend dedicated to 1990s country favorites.

The stations say the idea behind the Summer Mixtape Rewind is to create a fun and interactive soundtrack for backyard barbecues, road trips, camping weekends and lake days throughout the Black Hills region.

In addition to the music, listeners can expect themed pop-up audio segments featuring fun historical facts from the featured years, grilling hacks for Memorial Day cookouts, hiking trail recommendations across the Black Hills, and other summer-themed content designed to keep listeners entertained all weekend long.

The special programming event aims to tap into the nostalgia and excitement that often surrounds Memorial Day Weekend while giving audiences a unique listening experience that goes beyond traditional radio playlists.

Whether listeners grew up in the era being featured or are discovering the music for the first time, HomeSlice’s Summer Mixtape Rewind promises a weekend packed with familiar songs, throwback memories and the sounds of summers gone by.

The Summer Mixtape Rewind begins Memorial Day Weekend across all participating HomeSlice radio stations in Rapid City and the Black Hills.

Disclosure: The Summer Mixtape is promoted or affiliated with the HomeSlice Group, the parent company of The Rapid City Post.
