RAPID CITY, SD — A locally owned mattress manufacturer is planting roots in Rapid City.

Juna Sleep Systems, founded in Sioux Falls, is opening a 4,000-square-foot showroom and on-site factory at 855 W. Omaha St., Suite 2, in Rapid City. A soft opening is planned for mid-April, with a grand opening celebration scheduled for Labor Day weekend.

The expansion marks the company’s third location, following its original Sioux Falls showroom and factory and a second store in Ankeny, Iowa.

Founded in 2015 by Justin Waggoner, Juna Sleep Systems has built its brand on handcrafted mattresses, factory-direct pricing and what it describes as an education-first approach to sleep systems.

The Rapid City store is owned and operated by longtime Juna team members Nate Potratz, Brian Martin and Josh Rave. Combined, the ownership group brings more than two decades of mattress industry experience. Waggoner has more than 17 years in the industry, while Potratz brings more than nine years of experience. Rave and Martin each bring eight years.

Potratz, a Rapid City native, said the move west is personal.

“It means a lot to bring Juna to my hometown,” Potratz said. “I’m excited to spend more time in the Hills and to build something here that reflects the values of this community — local ownership, transparency, and quality.”

Waggoner said the company’s mission is to simplify mattress buying.

“I founded Juna Sleep Systems to make it impossible for someone to buy the wrong mattress,” Waggoner said. “We take the risk off the customer with a 120-night trial and a Lifetime Comfort Commitment, so comfort can be adjusted over time.”

Built in South Dakota, Sold in Rapid City

The Rapid City location will feature mattresses built on-site, allowing customers to see materials and construction firsthand. The company sources foams, coils and key components from U.S.-based manufacturers.

Queen mattresses start at $888, with premium systems available for customers seeking advanced support and adjustable features.

Juna Sleep Systems also partners with local chiropractors to promote spinal health and proper sleep alignment.

“We absolutely love our Juna Sleep Systems bed,” said Nicholas Krysl of Westside Chiropractic. “I appreciate the excellent ergonomic and orthopedic support it provides for my back, while also delivering unbeatable all-around comfort.”

Grand Opening and Community Focus

To celebrate its Rapid City launch, the company is promoting a sleep system giveaway valued at more than $9,000. Customers who purchase a mattress within the first 30 days will receive a complimentary bedding bundle, including two pillows and a sheet set.

During its first two months, the business plans to offer grand opening promotions and community-focused incentives. Ongoing appreciation discounts will be available to first responders, veterans, teachers, nurses and clergy.

Company leaders say they plan to hire locally and align with Black Hills-area nonprofits as part of a long-term commitment to the region.

With its expansion into Rapid City, Juna Sleep Systems joins the growing retail corridor along West Omaha Street, adding a locally owned manufacturer to the mix and further connecting the Black Hills market with a South Dakota-based brand.
