As the managing editor of The Rapid City Post and senior vice president of the HomeSlice Group, I am incredibly proud to mark this six-month milestone of our Weekend Edition by pulling back the curtain on how we bring you the news.
The Rapid City Post is owned and operated by the HomeSlice Media Group, a deeply rooted local business that has served the Black Hills since 1994. While our roots are in event promotion, today we are best known as a local media company, operating six radio stations and a full-service marketing agency.
The Rapid City Post represents the next exciting chapter in our commitment to this community. To make it happen, we have brought together a team of experienced reporters, broadcasters, designers, photographers, and media professionals. Because we are entirely independent and locally owned, our team works free from outside corporate influence.
We believe local news should be accessible to everyone, which is why we’ve built a business model that relies on advertisers rather than subscriptions. You can pick up our print copy or access our digital platforms completely free. We want to reach as many neighbors as possible.
To support this mission, we welcome partnerships with local businesses, including clearly labeled advertorial submissions, which we publish at our own strict discretion to ensure they bring value to you. To maintain journalistic standards, we keep a wall between our sales department and our newsroom. Transparency is everything to us: whenever HomeSlice has a relationship with a topic we cover, we will always disclose it.
Thanks to our deep roots in radio broadcasting, our podcasts, and our sister radio station the legendary ag and local news authority KBHB in Sturgis, our broadcasters and reporters enjoy unmatched, regular access to the Rapid City Mayor, local law enforcement, educators, business leaders, and everyday residents.
To give you the most comprehensive view of our state, we also supplement our local reporting with trusted content from South Dakota News Watch, Searchlight and the Associated Press. We also welcome your voices; I invite letters to the editor and opinion pieces regarding local issues that matter to our community. Opinion pieces must disclose the author’s name, a small background on themselves and they must be reasonable.
I view our digital and print platforms as two distinct, complementary experiences. Our digital platforms are built for the modern era—delivering breaking, real-time news the moment it happens. Our printed Weekend Edition is designed to be a conversation with the community. Because print captures a moment in time, we treat it as a curated, thoughtful roadmap to help you quickly understand the most important stories impacting life in the Black Hills.
We entered the news space because we felt there was a need for free news you can trust. No login required. Our bias is with our South Dakota community, and we strive everyday to serve it. We aim to be a long-standing fixture in Rapid City, and we are incredibly grateful to have you with us for the past six months, not nearly as impressive as last weeks’ 150th anniversary of The Black Hills Pioneer. Congratulations to Letti and team!
