BOX ELDER, S.D. — Motorized creations of all kinds will roll into Box Elder in June as the City of Box Elder hosts its second annual Motor Madness event at the Liberty Center YMCA.

The free community event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Liberty Center YMCA, located at 401 Main St. Organizers say the event is designed to celebrate anything powered by a motor, including classic cars, motorcycles, racecars, scooters, drones, robots and custom creations.

Rebecca Bader with the City of Box Elder said the event is not limited to traditional car shows. During an interview, Bader explained organizers want the event to be open to a wide variety of entries, saying anything with a motor that fits within one to three parking spaces is welcome to participate.

The event will also feature food trucks, vendors, live music, yard games and prize giveaways. Bader said the city plans to hand out prizes and provide family-friendly activities throughout the evening. She added that organizers have collected several lawn games over the years, including axe throwing and disc golf-style games, to help entertain attendees.

Among the returning attractions this year is a Ghostbusters-themed vehicle that previously appeared during a Halloween event in Box Elder. Bader said the customized car includes lights and music from the movie soundtrack. She also highlighted a Hot Wheels-inspired vehicle that resembles a life-sized toy car.

People interested in showcasing a motor-powered creation are encouraged to register before June 21 to help organizers plan parking arrangements. Registration is free and available online through the event sign-up form.
