RAPID CITY, SD – The former Albertsons location at 855 Omaha St. is undergoing a massive transformation led by local group Dream Design International. The new 50,000-square-foot building is now fully leased, bringing a wave of fresh retail and medical services to the heart of Rapid City.

Natural Grocers is confirmed to be moving into the main building. “We’re excited to come to Rapid City and be part of a community with such strong local pride,” said Katie Macarelli, director of public relations at Natural Grocers.

This addition is bringing a grocery store to the location since its vacancy in 2017. “From the start, our goal has been to listen to the people of Rapid City,” said a Dream Design International spokesperson. “They told us what they want—a walkable grocery option downtown, more restaurants, and places to stay active. That’s exactly what we’re building toward.”

Natural Grocers is a family-operated company with over 160 stores across 21 states with a heavy concentration in Colorado.

“Natural Grocers is a family-operated company with more than 70 years of experience serving communities that value quality, affordability, and connection.” said Macarelli, “When we explore new markets, we’re intentional about finding places where people care about where their food comes from and where community truly matters. Rapid City reflects those values. While we’re still finalizing details, we’re targeting an opening later this year and look forward to sharing more when the time is right.”

Juna Sleep Systems, a South Dakota-based mattress manufacturer founded in Sioux Falls, is also expanding to the new location in Suite 2. The 4,000-square-foot showroom and on-site factory is owned and operated by longtime Juna team members Nate Potratz, Brian Martin, and Josh Rave.

“It means a lot to bring Juna to my hometown,” said Potratz, originally from Rapid City. “I’m excited to spend more time in the Hills and to build something here that reflects the values of this community – local ownership, transparency, and quality.”

Portaz noted in a phone interview, “We get keys on March 16th so we’ll probably be open four weeks after that.” A soft opening is slated for mid-April, with a grand opening celebration planned for Labor Day weekend.

The only confirmed dedicated eatery, Jersey Mike’s Subs, is moving into the development. Their second location in Rapid City.

Monument Health will anchor the medical side of the development with a new outpatient clinical location.

“Monument Health is excited to confirm plans for a new outpatient clinical location.” A Monument Health Spokesperson stated. “Our Diabetes Education and Endocrinology services will relocate to this new facility, offering patients a modern setting to receive the same great care they’ve come to expect from Monument Health. The facility will also include space for additional clinical services as we continue to assess community health needs. We look forward to serving the community from this new location.”

Development will also expand southwest of the corner lot, where a new building measuring more than 6,000 square feet has yet to be built. This building will house a 1,500-square-foot coffee shop. The remaining space is currently under negotiation with prospective tenants, and no official announcements have been made regarding those storefronts.
