RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Pennington County Department of Equalization will provide a public presentation on agricultural classified properties.
The presentation will offer an overview of how agricultural (Ag) status is determined for properties within Pennington County. Department staff will explain the state laws governing Ag classification, as well as the formulas used to assess qualifying properties, including soil and productivity factors.
In addition, the presentation will address how these laws and formulas are applied in practice and outline the process property owners must follow to qualify for agricultural status. Staff will also discuss the broader impact on the county if classification standards are not applied consistently across properties, emphasizing the importance of uniform application.
This informational session is intended to help residents better understand agricultural property classification and its implications for both property owners and the county as a whole.
The presentation will be held during the regularly scheduled Pennington County Commission meeting on April 7 at 9:00 a.m. The meeting will be held in the Commission Chambers at 900 Concourse Drive. Members of the public are encouraged to attend to learn more about the topic and hear directly from Department of Equalization staff.
