RAPID CITY, S.D. – Salvation Army of the Black Hills, acting as part of the global Salvation Army organization, raises funds each year for local families in need of utility assistance. This year, it’s taking on a new form with the same mission.
Previously called Walk For Warmth, an organized walk through Rapid City’s downtown during the colder months, the fundraiser will now be called Play It Forward and promises an afternoon of sunny, family-friendly fun at Main Street Square.
Those attending Play It Forward can expect a putt-putt course on the grass at Main St. Square, a cornhole tournament sponsored by West River Cornhole, food trucks, games, and more.
The event, held from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, June 27 is designed to “bring the community together for a fun day of games while supporting an important cause–helping local families stay safe and secure in their homes by providing assistance with essential utilities,” according to a spokesperson from Salvation Army of the Black Hills.
Participants can check in and register to obtain a scorecard, where they’ll keep track of their putt-putt and cornhole scores. Once submitted, they’ll be in the running for a wide variety of prizes supplied by generous local businesses. Proceeds from the registration fees ($10 per participant or $25 per family) and optional Mulligans and Airmails ($5 each) will directly benefit the Salvation Army of the Black Hills’ utility assistance program.
