STURGIS, SD – A walk-off single by Ryne Keszler ended Sturgis Post 33’s hopes of an upset win, scoring Thomas Loftus and leading the Post 22 Expos to a 7-6 win in six innings on Friday night at Strong Field in the nightcap of the Sturgis Baseball Rally.
The game was a low scoring affair with the Expos holding on to a slim 4-2 lead headed into the top of the sixth inning.
The Titans plated four runs in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead, but Post 33 starting pitcher Brody Royer hit his max pitch count and was replaced by Tyler Cutts and Blake Kaufman. The Expos took advantage of the pitching change and belted four singles and scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning to steal the victory. The game was called after six innings due to the two hour time limit.
The Post 22 Expos finished with 11 hits and were led by Grady Barclay, who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Post 33 tallied four hits with Bridger Massa-Battin going 1-for-3 with two runs batted in.
Belle Fourche Post 32 defeated the Titans 8-2 earlier on Friday, and the Expos blew out Belle Fourche by a score of 19-6 in five innings in the second game of the day.
Sturgis Post 33 faces the Rapid City Post 22 Expos again on Saturday morning at 10am, the Expos take on Belle Fourche at 12:30pm and Sturgis plays Belle at 3pm.
