On May 26, 2026, Post 320 opened its field to junior baseball players interested in experiencing what it is like to be part of the program and become future members of the team. The practice brought together young athletes from around the community for an evening filled with excitement, learning, and teamwork. From the crack of bats to the cheers coming from the dugout, the atmosphere was full of energy, smiles, and determination as players worked hard throughout the event.

The special practice gave younger players the opportunity to interact with Post 320 coaches and athletes while learning more about the program itself. Players rotated through drills, practiced swinging, and fielding, and spent time building confidence on the field. Coaches and current players encouraged the younger athletes every step of the way, creating a welcoming environment for everyone involved.

Coach Mike Jansen shared that giving back to the community is one of the biggest reasons behind hosting the event.

“It’s just great to give back to the community,” Jansen said. “Rapid City is a thriving baseball community, and it starts at Little League and works its way up to juniors here. We had Canyon Lake out here last week, and Harney was supposed to come as well, but they got rained out. We are planning to reschedule that so they can come out too. It’s just fun having all the kids on the field.”

Jansen’s comments reflected the strong connection between local youth baseball programs and Post 320. Events like this not only help younger players improve their skills, but they also allow them to see the opportunities available as they continue growing in the sport. Many of the players looked up to the older athletes and were eager to learn from them throughout the evening.

One of the junior players who attended the practice was Quinn Sietsema, who said the event gave him a better understanding of what Post 320 is like while also allowing players to have fun on the field.

“I thought it was a good idea, and it was fun getting everybody out swinging bats,” Sietsema said. “I’m excited to work with the coaches and the other players.”

As the practice continued, the field remained full of laughter, focus, and encouragement. While the younger athletes practiced the fundamentals of baseball, they also experienced the teamwork and sportsmanship that Post 320 hopes to pass down to future generations of players.

The evening served as more than just a practice — it became an opportunity to strengthen the local baseball community and inspire the next group of athletes who hope to one day wear a Post 320 jersey.
