Yellow Jackets Land in Fifth to Open up Yellowjacket Fall Invite

BILLINGS, Mont. – Black Hills State started off the Yellowjacket Fall Invite with a solid round of 329 (+41) in the first round. It was the same score BHSU shot on day two of their first tournament in Sheridan and was only one shot outside BHSU's top 10 18-hole team scores since joining D2. BHSU got huge performances from freshman Megan Robb and transfer Cheyenne Shade , as well as Shelbi Gardner , who all shot 82 or better on the opening day. HOW IT HAPPENED Megan Robb put together the best round of her young career. After shooting an 80 (+8) in round two last tourney in Sheridan, she bested that with a 79 (+7) today breaking 80 for the first time in her college career. Robb ended up just outside the top 10 in a tie for 11 th after the opening day. Robb started out her round incredible, she made three birdies in the first nine holes to shoot a 38 (+2) on the front nine. This included a birdie on hole two, and back-to-back birdies on holes eight and nine. She ended up with three birdies and eight pars over the round. Cheyenne Shade finished in a tie for second on the team and in a tie for 18 th place. She shot an 82 (+10). After starting her round +3 through two holes, she shot even par over the next seven holes including a birdie on hole nine to shoot a 39 (+3) before the turn. She ended up with that birdie and nine pars on the round. Shelbi Gardner used a birdie on her final hole to match Shade's 82 (+10) and join her in a tie for 18 th place. After a double bogey on the first hole, she had a fantastic end to her front nine, shooting +1 over the next eight holes with two birdies on holes three and nine. She was one of three Yellow Jackets to birdie hole nine. She ended up with a 39 (+3) on the front nine and six pars and three birdies overall. Ava Kalanek joined the top four with an 86 (+14) and in 26 th place. Kalanek started her round +2 through six holes and had a birdie on hole four, which was one of seven birdies by the Jackets on the front nine. She ended up shooting a 41 (+5) on the front nine and had five pars and a birdie overall. Madison Brown broke 90 today to shoot an 89 (+17) to sit in 31 st place in the tournament. Brown had a 42 (+6) on the front nine with four pars. She followed that up with two pars on the back nine to make six pars total. Hatling shot a 103, which was the best round so far in her young Green and Gold career. The freshman broke 50 on the back nine, shooting a 49 with two pars overall in her round to sit in 35 th place after round one.
