Authorities identify pedestrian killed in crash in White River

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The highway patrol has identified a Rapid City woman who died from injuries sustained in a vehicle‑versus‑pedestrian crash that occurred Wednesday, September 23 in White River. Preliminary crash information indicates 23-year-old Nikki Thin Elk was walking south on U.S. 83 in the middle of the road. At the same time, Julio Ernesto Alonso Torres, the driver of a 2016 Dodge Ram 3500, was traveling southbound on U.S. 83 hauling a flatbed trailer. Alonso Torres attempted to brake and swerved when he saw Thin Elk, but the vehicle ended up striking her. She was taken to a Rosebud hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, September 24. The investigation is ongoing. Share via: Facebook Twitter LinkedIn More
