Thirty Years Deep
Kenny Wayne Shepherd picked up a guitar as a teenager in Louisiana and basically never put it down. “Blue on Black” made him a household name in the late ’90s, and he kept touring, kept recording, kept playing with the kind of focus that makes you think this is genuinely just what the guy does.
His latest stuff, including “Deja Voodoo,” carries that same gritty, unhurried blues sound. The solos stretch and breathe, going wherever they need to go.
What the Weekend Looks Like
The Deadwood Jam has been running for 36 years. It’s free, it’s outdoors at Outlaw Square, and it draws the kind of crowd that shows up because they actually want to be there. Music runs both days, with Wyoming native Ian Munsick opening Friday night and Shepherd headlining Saturday.
Bring a jacket. The Black Hills cool off fast.
