In Episode 2, host Brandon Jones sits down with Homeslice Media content creator and media specialist Scout Wheeler, whose photography, graphic design and visual storytelling have become a defining part of the company’s branding and event coverage.

Originally from Bismarck, North Dakota, Wheeler joined Homeslice Media four years ago after graduating from Bismarck State College with a background in graphic design and communications. What began as a position centered around social media has evolved into a role that touches nearly every aspect of the company’s creative efforts.

Today, Wheeler produces concert photography, promotional graphics, social media campaigns and event branding while covering some of the Black Hills’ largest annual events, including the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Mountain West Beer Fest and Whiskey Festival.

Jones praised Wheeler throughout the conversation, calling her one of the company’s hardest-working employees and highlighting the impact she has had behind the scenes since joining the team. He credited her creativity, work ethic and ability to capture live performances through photography as qualities that have elevated Homeslice Media’s visual identity.

The conversation also explores Wheeler’s artistic background and how her upbringing influenced her design style. Growing up around rodeo culture, she developed an appreciation for the bold, information-rich rodeo posters that decorated her family’s home. That lifelong inspiration came full circle this year when she was selected to design the official poster for the Black Hills Roundup.

Wheeler described the project as one of the most challenging of her career but also one of the most rewarding, saying it represented a personal milestone after years of admiring western poster art.

Beyond graphic design, Wheeler has become known for her live music photography, documenting performances throughout the region. She credits Homeslice Media’s creative environment for allowing her to experiment and grow professionally, saying the company’s willingness to embrace new ideas has helped shape both her career and artistic voice.

The episode also offers a glimpse into the fast-paced environment behind Homeslice Media, where no two weeks look the same. From filming promotional videos and producing graphics to traveling with local artists and covering community events, Wheeler said the variety is one of the reasons she enjoys coming to work each day.

Jones reflected on how Wheeler’s personality and collaborative approach have made her a favorite among coworkers, noting that her behind-the-scenes contributions often go unnoticed by audiences despite being visible in nearly every Homeslice project.

As the interview concludes, Wheeler looks ahead to another busy Sturgis Motorcycle Rally season, saying she’s most excited about reconnecting with returning artists, photographers and visitors while documenting one of the Black Hills’ biggest annual events.

The “Not On the Mic” series continues to introduce listeners to the employees whose work powers Homeslice Media beyond the microphones, giving audiences a closer look at the creative professionals responsible for the company’s photography, design, video production and digital content.
