The Rapid City Stevens Raiders took advantage of Scooper errors and beat Sturgis 8-6 on Monday night at Strong Field.

Sturgis jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on runs by Elijah Stroud, Bridger Massa-Battin and Easton Sabers.

Stevens tied the game in the top of the second with runs by Conor Konvalin, Jace Thompson and Trevor Schlosser.

A sacrifice fly by Massa-Battin scored Tate Johnson, giving the Scoopers a 4-3 in the bottom of the second.

The Raiders plated four runs in the top of the third inning, using aggressive base running, taking a 7-4 lead.

The momentum of the game shifted a little in the bottom of the fifth, when Sturgis head coach Paul Pool was thrown out of the game by the home plate umpire after arguing a controversial play at first base. His team responded, scoring two runs and trailed Stevens 7-6 headed into the sixth inning.

The Raiders added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning and closer Ben Thompson shut down Sturgis in the bottom half of the inning to get the 8-6 victory.

Austin Flohr got the win for Rapid City Stevens (11-4-1), pitching five innings, allowing four hits and two runs while, striking out seven and walking one. Cael Pool took the pitching loss for Sturgis (7-2).

Caidan Comparetto and Trevor Schlosser led Stevens with two hits each. The Raiders finished with five hits and left four on base. Stevens had 10 stolen bases for the game.

Sturgis had eight hits and left five on base. Elijah Stroud and Jeren Andrzejewski each had two hits for the Scoopers. Sturgis finished with five stolen bases.

The Scoopers will host Spearfish on Thursday night at 7pm at Strong Field, weather permitting.
