RAPID CITY, S.D. — The final weekend of September brings one of South Dakota’s most iconic traditions alongside classic cars, live theater, local music and fall celebrations. Here’s a look at what’s happening around Rapid City and the Black Hills from Friday through Sunday.
Friday
Friday morning begins with the annual Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup, as horseback riders gather and move the park’s bison herd across the prairie. The accompanying Buffalo Roundup Arts Festival also brings vendors and activities to the park throughout the weekend.
Back in Rapid City, Free Pinball Friday begins at Hay Camp Brewing Company at 4 p.m. Players of all ages and skill levels can enjoy two hours of free pinball.
At 5 p.m., Gutter Fest 2026 continues at the AFL-CIO Labor Temple. The all-ages underground music festival features a large lineup of punk, metal and rock acts from the local and regional music scenes.
At 6 p.m., the Dahl Arts Center hosts an EPA Spotlight performance in the Cultural Café featuring emerging students of Katie Smirnova.
Then at 7 p.m., Frozen takes the stage at the Performing Arts Center of Rapid City, bringing the story of sisterhood and adventure to the Historic Theater.
Saturday
Saturday starts at 10 a.m. with the Black Hills Card Show at The Monument. Collectors can buy, sell and trade sports cards, Pokémon, other trading-card games, vintage collectibles and memorabilia.
At noon, the Cruiser Car Show takes over downtown Rapid City. The free event runs until 4 p.m. and features classic cars, food trucks, vendors, a kids zone and live music at Main Street Square.
Also at noon, Tartoberfest gets underway at Woodland Republic Brewing & Blending, bringing an Oktoberfest-inspired celebration and craft beer to downtown Rapid City.
At 7 p.m., Frozen returns to the Performing Arts Center for another evening performance.
Sunday
The Black Hills Card Show returns to The Monument at 10 a.m. Sunday, giving collectors another opportunity to browse, buy, sell and trade cards, collectibles and memorabilia.
At 2 p.m., Frozen closes out the weekend with a Sunday matinee at the Performing Arts Center of Rapid City.
From the thundering hooves of the Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup and rows of classic cars downtown to underground music, local art, fall festivities and live theater, there’s plenty happening across Rapid City and the Black Hills this weekend.
