RAPID CITY, S.D. — October gets underway with a busy weekend across Rapid City and the Black Hills. Country music, comedy, independent films, local art and one of downtown’s signature fall celebrations are all on the calendar from Friday through Sunday.

Friday

Live music gets the weekend started at 6 p.m. at 707 Sports Bar & Nightlife, where Versus Me and This Island Earth bring a high-energy mix of post-hardcore, metalcore and modern rock to Rapid City.

At 6:30 p.m., the 17th Annual Black Hills Film Festival begins at The Journey Museum. Opening night features two adventure films and launches a weekend of independent movies, filmmakers, special guests and discussions.

At 7 p.m., comedian Jayson Cross brings his Moral Dilemma Tour to the Dahl Arts Center. Cross has performed with the Bored Teachers Comedy Tour and brings a stand-up style focused on relationships, social norms and everyday dilemmas.

At 7:30 p.m., country music star Tracy Lawrence brings his No Alibis Tour to The Monument. Lawrence’s decades-long career includes a catalog of country hits alongside newer material.

Then at 8 p.m., Tyler Bills performs live at the Tinder Box in downtown Rapid City.

Saturday

Saturday begins at 10 a.m. with the Fall Marketplace Pop-Up at The Monument. The free event inside Rushmore Hall features local boutiques, handmade goods, home décor, seasonal items and gifts.

Also at 10 a.m., the Black Hills Film Festival continues at The Journey Museum with two free filmmaker discussion panels. Film screenings begin at 1 p.m.

At noon, Bierbörse returns to Main Street Square. The 21-and-older celebration runs until 5 p.m. with German-inspired food, live music, beer tastings and the Beer Stock Exchange, where prices fluctuate based on demand.

At 6 p.m., the annual 7th Street Art Auction gets underway at the Dahl Arts Center. The fundraiser supports local artists, exhibitions, arts education and community programming.

Sunday

Sunday begins at noon at Lost Cabin Beer Company with an artist reception celebrating award-winning local artist Susan Drey and her work on display throughout October.

At 1 p.m., the Black Hills Film Festival returns for its final day of screenings at The Journey Museum, giving movie fans one more opportunity to experience this year’s lineup of independent films.

Then from 2 to 6 p.m., Classic Country Sunday Funday brings the Wilt Brothers Band to Kickstands in Sturgis for a free, all-ages afternoon of classic country and rock-and-roll.

From Tracy Lawrence and independent films to local art, comedy and a downtown fall celebration, there’s plenty happening across Rapid City and the Black Hills this weekend.
