NHSACA Inducts Rapid City Coach into Hall of Fame
Coralville, IA. The National High School Athletic Coaches Association inducted Rapid City Stevens tennis coach Jason Olson into its 2026 Hall of Fame Class in a ceremony on June 30 in Coralville, Iowa. Olson has won 11 state tennis championships over his 29-year coaching career at Stevens High School.
Jason graduated from Stevens in 1987 and began his coaching career at his alma mater in 1995 as a volunteer tennis assistant coach for the boys’ and girls’ programs. He was hired to lead the girls’ program in 1997. He took over the boys’ program the following spring and has led both for almost 30 years now.
Along with the state titles, Jason has picked up plenty of individual honors, including being named National High School Tennis Coach of the Year in 2016 by the NHSACA. He was inducted into the South Dakota High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2020 and the Stevena Hall of Fame in 2024. Last year, he added the South Dakota Tennis Hall of Fame to that list.
Jason also helped spearhead the redevelopment of the Sioux Park Tennis Complex in 2023 and has run countless tennis tournaments in Rapid City. He’s served as Director of Tennis for the Rapid City Recreation Department for nearly 40 years.
Jason’s love for the sport is infectious, and Rapid City is grateful to have him leading the advancement of tennis in our community.
Congratulations to Jason on his latest honor. We look forward to watching him get inducted into the Rapid City Sports Hall of Fame when he eventually retires.
