RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Stockgrowers Association 135th Annual Convention gets underway today (July20, 2026) in Rapid City. Doris Lauing is the Executive Director.
As the convention moves into Tuesday, Lauing says there are a number of presentations that will be of interest in ranchers and other stakeholders.
Among the most pressings issues in South Dakota that will be on the agenda is the brand program. During this year’s legislative session, South Dakota House Bill (HB) 1020 is a bill signed into law by the governor that increases the maximum allowable livestock ownership inspection fee to $1.65 per head of livestock. It also regulates various livestock brand fees (such as registrations and renewals).
The evening banquet is also the setting for the “Ride for the Brand Award” presentation.
On Wednesday, Stockgrower members will be setting policy for the 2026-2027.
