RAPID CITY, S.D. — The South Dakota Department of Corrections is now accepting applications for several full-time positions at the new Rapid City Correctional Facility, which is expected to begin operations in April 2026.

The hiring effort marks one of the early staffing phases for the new facility, offering job seekers the opportunity to build long-term careers while helping launch a brand-new correctional campus in western South Dakota.

Open positions include Electronics Maintenance Technician, Physical Plant Manager, and Building Maintenance Specialist. Each role plays a key part in maintaining facility operations, safety systems and infrastructure.

According to the Department of Corrections, all positions come with a comprehensive benefits package. Employees can choose from four health insurance options, including a zero-dollar premium employee plan. Dental and vision coverage are also available, along with 11 paid holidays, vacation time, sick leave accrual and a six percent matched pension retirement benefit.

The Rapid City Correctional Facility is designed to modernize correctional operations in the region while improving efficiency and working conditions for staff. State officials say early hiring allows time for training and preparation ahead of the facility’s anticipated opening.
