RAPID CITY, S.D. – Buffalo Plains Recovery has been awarded approximately $1.54 million through South Dakota’s Digital Health Modernization and Technology Grant Program to expand its technology and clinical capabilities.

The grant will fund ongoing improvements to create a modern, tech-driven treatment environment in Rapid City, helping connect patients with care throughout their recovery. The facility offers a full continuum of substance use disorder care, including 24-hour medically supervised detoxification, residential treatment, and outpatient services.

“This award is an important investment not only in Buffalo Plains Recovery, but in the people and communities we serve,” said Ryan Letterman, CEO of Buffalo Plains Recovery. “Modern behavioral health care requires strong technology, reliable systems and the ability to connect patients, providers and information effectively. This funding will help give our team the tools and infrastructure needed to deliver exceptional care”.

The behavioral health provider serves Rapid City, the Black Hills, and surrounding communities in western South Dakota. For many residents across the region, receiving treatment historically required navigating multiple providers or traveling long distances. Bringing multiple levels of care into one resource helps patients transition between treatment stages with greater continuity.

“Technology may operate behind the scenes, but ultimately this investment is about people,” Letterman said. “It is about helping someone get into treatment when they are ready, providing excellent care close to home and giving people the support they need to build lasting recovery”.

Buffalo Plains Recovery plans to collaborate with local health care providers, community organizations, first responders, and families to strengthen behavioral health access across Rapid City and the broader region.
