STURGIS, S.D. — With hundreds of events and concerts taking place during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau is helping visitors navigate everything from entertainment to parking rules with its free Rally Essentials booklet.

Veronica Grosek, who runs the Sturgis Chamber of Commerce, Visitors Bureau and Welcome Center, said the booklet was created to give rallygoers one place to find the information they may need during their stay. “We have everything that our guests need to know about events,” Grosek said, adding that the guide also includes emergency information and tips from local police.

The booklet addresses some of the questions visitors commonly have about navigating Sturgis during the rally, including parking restrictions and what happens to motorcycles left on Main Street overnight. Grosek said motorcycles remaining on Main Street at 2 a.m. are subject to towing. The guide also directs visitors to additional information online through QR codes, including a master concert directory covering more than 400 concerts taking place around the area.

Grosek said one of the goals was to make the booklet as comprehensive as possible without limiting listings to businesses or organizations that pay to advertise. “It’s not like a pay to play. You don’t have to advertise to be in it,” Grosek said. “We literally go around and we try and put everything we can in it.” She said that approach makes the booklet one of the most comprehensive guides available to rally visitors.

The idea grew out of the questions staff members were receiving from visitors at the Welcome Center. Grosek said there were times when visitors would ask about activities or other rally information and staff did not have an immediate answer, prompting the organization to begin gathering the information itself.

Visitors can pick up a free Rally Essentials booklet at the Sturgis Welcome Center, 2040 Junction Ave., next to the hospital. The Welcome Center also offers maps of Sturgis, South Dakota and other states, along with recommendations for restaurants, hotels, camping and other resources. Grosek said all of the maps and visitor information are available free of charge.
