Rapid City, SD – Dozens of local residents gathered outside City Hall at the intersection of Omaha and 6th Street at noon Sunday to voice opposition to recent U.S. military operations in Venezuela.
The “emergency protest”, organized by Indivisible Rapid City, follows reports of a large-scale U.S. military operation dubbed Operation Absolute Resolve.
Protesters lined the sidewalk in downtown Rapid City carrying signs and echoing the organizers’ call for an immediate withdrawal of American forces. Indivisible Rapid City issued a formal statement during the event demanding an end to what they described as an unauthorized occupation.
“This invasion of another nation without provocation occurred without Congressional approval, the group stated in its call to action. No president has the authority to unilaterally overthrow a foreign government and install U.S. control. This is not liberation – it is occupation.”
The local protesters outlined four specific demands during the noon gathering: an immediate end to military operations, a full Congressional investigation into the use of force, respect for international law, and a shift toward humanitarian aid led by neutral international organizations rather than military intervention.
