BOX ELDER, S.D. – Air Force veteran and local business owner Jason Fleming has officially launched his campaign for the South Dakota House of Representatives, seeking to represent District 35 in the upcoming election.
Fleming, who served 21 years in the United States Air Force, enters the race with a platform focused on fiscal responsibility and community stability. Since retiring from military service, he has established himself in the Rapid City area business community as the founder of Veteran Roofing and Veteran Painting.
“Fleming’s story is rooted in service,” his campaign stated, noting that his transition to civilian leadership included roles on the Box Elder Fire District Board and the Box Elder Economic Development Board.
The candidate has also been active in local education and civic organizations, serving on the Rapid City Summer Nights Board and participating in the Douglas School System’s Portrait of a Graduate initiative. His campaign emphasizes that his background in public safety, economic development, and education provides a foundation for legislative service.
District 35, which encompasses Box Elder, Rapid Valley, and areas surrounding Ellsworth Air Force Base, is currently experiencing significant demographic and economic shifts. Fleming’s platform focuses on these changes by prioritizing property tax relief and affordable community growth.
Other key pillars of his campaign include advocacy for military families, the protection of parental rights, and increased support for first responders and law enforcement.
Fleming resides in the Black Hills region with his wife, Andrea, and their three children, Isiah, Ian, and Lena. He cited his family’s future as a primary motivator for his run, stating a commitment to ensuring South Dakota values remain a priority as the Rapid City metropolitan area continues to expand.
