RAPID CITY, S.D. — Another packed weekend is on deck across Rapid City and the Black Hills with everything from craft beer celebrations and live local music to comedy shows, wine tastings, and family-friendly events filling the calendar from Friday through Sunday.
Lost Cabin Beer Company kicks off the weekend Friday morning with one of the biggest highlights of its ongoing 10 Year Anniversary celebration. Beginning at 11 a.m., the brewery will release its Bourbon Barrel Aged Lord Grizzly as part of American Craft Beer Week festivities.
The special release takes the brewery’s Scotch Ale and ages it in Woodford Reserve Double Oak barrels, creating a 10% ABV beer layered with flavors of plum, fig, molasses, vanilla, and charred oak. The celebration will also include live screen printing inside the barrel room, food from YoYo Hibachi beginning at 3 p.m., beer cotton candy in the afternoon, and plenty of anniversary-themed fun throughout the day.
Friday evening shifts into live music mode at Thirsty’s Burgers and Beer in downtown Rapid City. Local musicians Mike Lemay and Brian Mahaney perform acoustic sets from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. while guests can also take advantage of happy hour specials and half-priced pints before the music begins.
For those looking for something louder and heavier, the VFW Post 1273 on Main Street hosts a stacked local and touring lineup beginning at 7 p.m. featuring Little Foot, Yes Ma’am, Isolated South, and The Carrion Crawlers. The show is open to all ages until 9 p.m. and continues the VFW’s growing reputation as one of Rapid City’s hubs for underground and independent live music.
Comedy fans will have another option Friday night as West River Comedy Club welcomes veteran stand-up comic David Testroet for a 7:30 p.m. performance. Testroet has spent more than 35 years performing across the United States and Canada, including appearances alongside comedians such as Ron White, Jeff Foxworthy, Jeff Dunham, Josh Blue, and Doug Stanhope. Known for his patient storytelling style and carefully crafted punchlines, the longtime touring comic brings decades of experience to the Rapid City stage.
Meanwhile, Valley Sports Bar adds some late-night energy with Hot Hunks Jersey Night beginning at 8 p.m. The event also doubles as a search for the next “King of the Chip” ahead of the 86th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally at the Legendary Buffalo Chip. Contestants who sign up will receive a free Buffalo Chip concert pass.
Saturday’s lineup begins at Jolly Lane Greenhouse, where guests can enjoy weekends at Jolly Lane starting at 11 a.m. The event combines live music from Lucas Olson with food trucks, South Dakota wine, and local craft beer in a laid-back greenhouse setting.
Later Saturday afternoon, Shipwrecks Bar hosts a curated Wine School experience focused on Spanish wines beginning at 3 p.m. The tasting event will guide attendees through several celebrated wine regions of Spain while offering education, conversation, and guided pours in an intentionally intimate setting. Seating is limited for the event.
Saturday evening also brings Rock The Rez to the Dahl Arts Center beginning at 5 p.m. The family-friendly fundraiser supports Rock The Rez programming and celebrates the organization’s first-ever full week of camp coming to Rapid City.
The event will include a silent auction, kids activities, and live performances from David Huckfelt and Laura Hugo, whose song “Chief Seattle’s Dream” was recently featured in the television series “Dark Winds.” Multi-disciplinary artist Marty Two Bulls and The Wake Singers are also scheduled to perform during the evening celebration.
Sunday slows things down with wellness and family entertainment opportunities across the city.
Lawless Pilates hosts a Breathwork class at 11 a.m. led by Chris Pelczarski. The session focuses on conscious breathing techniques designed to help participants reconnect mind and body through guided somatic breathing exercises.
The weekend wraps up Sunday evening at West River Comedy Club with Family Friendly Floats and Funnies beginning at 6 p.m. The all-ages event features clean comedy performances from Tyler Corbine, Charlie Martin, and Victoria Garland while guests build their own root beer floats with a full toppings bar. Organizers say the show is designed to bring together kids, parents, grandparents, and comedy fans of all ages for a relaxed night of entertainment.
