RAPID CITY, S.D. — Members of American Legion Post 22 gathered March 22 for their annual Post Everlasting Ceremony, honoring fellow veterans who passed away in 2025.
The ceremony, a long-standing Legion tradition, serves as a final roll call. A moment to remember those who once stood in formation and to ensure their service and sacrifice are never forgotten.
This year, Post 22 honored the lives of the following members:
World War II Veterans
Robert Hedrick
James H. McKellar
Korean War Veterans
Dean K. Bassett
Margaret M. Boyles
Harry A. Geise
David L. Lofze
Charles R. Johnson
Howard D. Larsen
Jack A. Magstadt
Hugh Oelrich
Robert L. Morrow
Darrell Scott
Joan L. Thompson
Clyde R. Wepner
Vietnam War Veterans
Frederick P. Athans
Charles L. Burdell Jr.
John R. Haywood
Rand Schutt
John W. Willard Jr.
Photos from the ceremony show Legion members in uniform standing together beneath the American flag, a powerful symbol of unity that continues even after loss. The Post Everlasting Ceremony reflects the belief that while members may be gone from this life, they remain part of an everlasting post. One that endures through memory, honor and shared service.

The names read were more than names. They were friends, mentors and fellow veterans who shared in the burdens and bonds of service.
As each name was spoken, it carried with it a lifetime of dedication, not only to country, but to community, family and one another.
Their chairs may now sit empty, but their stories remain woven into the fabric of Post 22.
And as the final roll call was answered in silence, one truth remained…they are not forgotten, and they never will be.
