| Forest Service seeks public comment on proposed Rare Element Resources, Ltd. project |
| SUNDANCE, WY — The Black Hills National Forest will submit a notice of intent to be published in the Federal Register to prepare an environmental impact statement for Rare Element Resources, Ltd.’s proposed development of the Bull Hill Mine in northeast Wyoming. Publication of this notice begins a 30-day public comment period. Rare Element Resources, Ltd. proposes to develop an open-pit mine on approximately 260 acres of National Forest System lands. The Bear Lodge Rare Earth Project is designated as a Fast-41 project, which ensures streamlined federal coordination while maintaining environmental standards. The project also advances Executive Order: 14241 (Immediate Measures to Increase American Mineral Production). “The Forest Service is required by regulation to consider mining plans of operations on National Forest System lands, ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and minimize adverse impacts where feasible,” said Black Hills National Forest Supervisor Shawn Cochran. “Rare Element Resources, Ltd. has submitted a plan of operation proposing to restart mining, and we are seeking public input on their proposal.” Public comments will help shape the scope of the environmental analysis and identify issues and alternatives for consideration. Additional details, including meeting information and project documents, will be available on the project website. Submit comments online, by mail, or in-person (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. MT, excluding holidays) to: Shawn Cochran, Forest Supervisor, c/o Wendy Schuyler, Project Manager, Black Hills National Forest, 1019 N. 5th Street Custer, SD 57730.
