RAPID CITY, S.D. — Organizers of the Black Hills Stock Show say this year’s event is shaping up to be one of the busiest in recent years, with strong attendance, upbeat vendors and a packed schedule heading into the final weekend.
Silvia Christen, sponsorship coordinator for the Black Hills Stock Show, said the atmosphere across the grounds has been positive, with steady crowds and strong engagement.
“It has been a fantastic stock show,” Christen said. “As you walk around the show here, the vendors are all really happy and really looking forward to the weekend. We’ve had an awesome run throughout the week.”
Christen highlighted several popular events that have already taken place, including the Ranch Rodeo, Broncs for Breakfast and Boots and Beers. She said favorable weather and consistent attendance have added to the overall experience.
One of her personal highlights is the sheepdog trials, which she described as an impressive and sometimes overlooked part of the Stock Show. “It’s such a skill piece,” Christen said. “A lot of people don’t know about it or don’t get to see it, but it’s one of my favorites.”
She also pointed to youth livestock shows and mutton busting as crowd favorites, noting the excitement of watching young competitors participate and celebrate their accomplishments. Christen shared a moment where a young mutton busting champion proudly wore his buckle around the grounds.
As the event moves into its final days, Christen said attendance feels higher than in recent years. While final numbers are not yet available, she said conversations with vendors and ticket trends indicate a strong year.
“It feels a lot busier than we’ve seen in the last few years,” she said. “From talking to our vendors and looking at ticket sales, it feels like it’s going to be a really solid year.”
Concerts are also drawing strong interest. Christen said tickets are still available for Friday night’s show featuring Tanner Usrey, while Saturday’s performance by Ole 60 is nearing a sellout.
“Ole 60 is definitely pushing up against our sellout number,” she said. “Ticket sales on that one are outpacing the others, so we encourage people to get their tickets early.”
Organizers say they are optimistic heading into the final weekend and appreciative of the continued support from the community and visitors traveling to Rapid City for the Black Hills Stock Show.
