STURGIS, S.D. – Newly elected Sturgis Mayor Rod Bradley and Ward 1 councilman Terry Keszler were sworn into office at a special council meeting Monday night.
The pair were to be sworn in this past Thursday, however, while canvassing the vote from the June 2nd election. council members found some minor discrepancies between the poll book and election sheet.

Ward 1 councilman Terry Keszler is sworn in Monday night.
Sturgis City Finance Officer Ann Bertolotto says after meeting with state election officials about the minor discrepancies, determined that the circumstances identified during the canvass did not meet the statutory conditions necessary to require a recount. Instead, state election procedures call for the canvassing board to identify and document the discrepancies, determine whether they affect the election outcome, and, if they do not, certify the results as submitted by election workers.
Monday night, the council did just that; noted the discrepancies and approved canvassing the election. Once that was completed, Bradly and Keszler were sworn in. It was noted the discrepancies did not affect the outcome of either race from the June 2nd special election.
Once seated, Mayor Bradley thanked the public and council, and asked for nominations for Council President and Vice-President.
Tony Dargatz received the nomination and approval for Council President. Alex Usera received the nomination and approval for Council Vice-President.
The council then adjourned the meeting.
