Charlotte Ann Dougherty met her Lord peacefully on May 28, 2026. Charlotte was born April 7, 1951 in Seattle, WA, one of four children born to Robert and Margaret Stinson. She grew up in Seattle and attended Catholic schools there, graduating from Bishop Blanchet High School in 1969. She attended Shoreline Community College and the University of Washington, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. In 1974 she married William Dougherty. The couple had one child, a daughter, Kerry.
After working in several positions in the Seattle area, her professional career began when she joined the information systems group at SAFECO Insurance Company in Seattle in 1985 where she would work for the next nine years.
In 1994, she married Gary Fladmoe. The marriage took her to the east coast where her husband was employed. They would reside in West Milford, NJ for the next twenty years. After a year working as a consultant with IBM, she took a position in information systems with global insurance giant AIG where she would work until her retirement in 2018.
Her husband, Gary, had retired in 1993. Several years prior, the couple had purchased property in Belle Fourche, SD, her husband’s birth place and hometown, to build a home for their retirement. The home was finished and ready for occupancy in August of 2014, and the couple moved to South Dakota and took up residence.
Upon becoming a South Dakotan, Charlotte quickly became involved in things in her new community. During her time in Belle Fourche, she served on the boards of the Tri-State Museum and Visitor Center, the Matthews Opera House in Spearfish, and the Belle Fourche Arts Council. She loved writing, especially for the theater, and became a successful playwright, director, and actress. She wrote several one-act plays that were staged as part of the Theater on the Run in Spearfish, and wrote a full-length mystery play that was staged as the single production for the tenth anniversary of Theater on the Run in 2021. Prior to her death, she had just finished another mystery for the fifteenth anniversary of that event this year.
She is survived by her husband, Gary, a step-daughter, Shannon Sellers in Dallas, TX, two brothers, John Stinson in Ennis, MT and Tom Stinson in East Wenatchee, WA, as well as four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, William Dougherty, her daughter, Kerry, and a brother, Joel Stinson.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 7th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Kline Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 8th at 10:30 am at St. Paul Catholic Church in Belle Fourche. Interment will follow at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche.
