RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City could get its first Chick-fil-A earlier than expected, with Mayor Jason Salamun saying the La Crosse Street location is now on track for a possible November opening.

On the latest episode of “Meeting with the Mayor,” guest host Amy Rose joined Salamun for a wide-ranging conversation about new businesses, public safety investments, roads and continued growth across Rapid City. Salamun said he recently met with Chick-fil-A representatives and learned the La Crosse Street restaurant is ahead of schedule.

“It sounds to me like November. We might get the first Chick-fil-A sandwich going,” Salamun said.

The mayor also said efforts continue to attract Costco to Rapid City. Salamun said he received a message Thursday from someone connected to the retailer indicating interest in another visit.

“They’re back on the table,” Salamun said. “In fact, I got a text yesterday from someone who’s connected to them, said we’d like to talk about coming out for a visit again.”

Salamun stressed that any decision to enter Rapid City ultimately belongs to the retailer. He said city officials can help by welcoming companies and connecting them with developers, landowners and other local contacts.

Beyond retail development, Salamun discussed the groundbreaking for Fire Station No. 9 and a new police precinct on Homestead Street, along with plans for a nearby park. He said the project is designed to improve emergency response as Rapid City expands eastward. His proposed budget includes 21 new positions associated with staffing the new fire station.

Salamun also highlighted a planned $65 million investment in Rapid City streets over the next two years, including additional mill-and-overlay work and resources for maintaining existing roads.

“We have great momentum,” Salamun said. “We just need to keep it going.”
