RAPID CITY, SD—Beginning today, the City of Rapid City will begin collecting information about street and sidewalk conditions in the community. Crews will be collecting data and images on all city streets as part of the Pavement Condition Index (PCI).

The data collection will be performed by Michael Baker International and is anticipated to take approximately two to three weeks to complete. During the process, a vehicle will travel throughout the City collecting:

  • Pavement Condition Index data
  • Street and pavement images
  • Sidewalk images and related condition information

The information collected will be used by the City of Rapid City to evaluate street and sidewalk infrastructure conditions, prioritize future maintenance and rehabilitation projects, and support the City’s ongoing pavement management program.

The City’s Public Works Department advises residents and motorists may notice a white van marked as ‘Michael Baker International’, pictured in the main photo, traveling through neighborhoods and along City streets. Please use caution when approaching this vehicle and allow adequate space for crews to safely complete the data collection.

No action is required from residents. The City appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation while this data collection process is completed.
