RAPID CITY, SD–This week, employees and groups from various city and county agencies are working to clear overgrowth and heavy vegetative areas as well as debris and litter along Rapid Creek between the West Boulevard area and the Central States Fairgrounds.

The multi-day effort has included staff from Rapid City’s Public Works Department, Parks Department, Police Department, Fire Department, City Stormwater Division as well as the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Rapid City Wildland Fire crews along with Ignite crews.

“Safety and community well-being are at the forefront of this multi-agency, collaborative project,” said Rapid City Police Chief Don Hedrick. “It has been several years since the last major cleanup; by clearing the dense overgrowth we are enhancing visibility and security for bike path users, while dramatically improving the overall appearance of one of Rapid City’s key community corridors.”

Work is expected to be completed Friday.
