RAPID CITY, S.D. — Visitors to Rapid City City Hall are being encouraged to share their patriotic sentiments as part of the community’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

The City Hall lobby has been transformed with red, white and blue decorations and a special display inviting residents and city staff to answer the question, “I Love America Because…” The display, located near the city’s finance office, features a large banner where visitors can place star-shaped stickers containing their personal responses.

The display was created by a small group of city staff members and is designed to encourage community participation in the upcoming America 250 observance.

Skye Martin of the Rapid City Mayor’s Office said the activity provides a simple opportunity for residents to reflect on what America means to them. Martin said it takes only a few seconds to participate and serves as a meaningful way to get into the spirit of the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration.

In addition to sharing their thoughts, visitors can view a display board highlighting key events planned for Rapid City’s upcoming “Real America 250 Birthday Bash.” The community celebration is scheduled for July 1-5 and will feature a series of events commemorating the nation’s 250th birthday.

The interactive display will remain available in the City Hall lobby, giving residents and visitors an opportunity to contribute their own messages of patriotism and appreciation while learning more about the city’s planned America 250 festivities.
