RAPID CITY, SD — The City Hall lobby in Rapid City is now serving as a permanent drop-off location for the public to drop off cell phones, tablets, chargers and cords for the 911 Cell Phone Bank.

The City of Rapid City is coordinating the effort with the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office Victim’s Specialist Program. In December and January, the City Hall lobby served as a drop-off location for cell phones and related items.  A total of 419 phones were donated by the public and Victim’s Specialist Program turned the items over to the 911 Cell Phone Bank.

It was the second consecutive year the City of Rapid City participated in the holiday donation program.  City Hall will now serve as one of the permanent donation locations for the program.

The used items will be repaired, refurbished, recycled and securely erased, then provided to partnering agencies to be given to victims of violent crimes.

“We are pleased to serve as a permanent location for donations of cell phones for this worthwhile effort,” said Kelly Langenbau with the City of Rapid City. “The phones are literally a life line for victims of violent crimes. We are encouraging the public to drop off the phones, tablets and accessories they no longer will use and know the items will continue to provide a great service.”

Donations are also accepted at the Public Safety Building, 300 Kansas City Street.
