STURGIS, S.D. — Community members are invited to take part in a special tribute honoring America’s fallen heroes during the 2026 Sturgis Rally.

On Saturday, Aug. 1, the Sturgis Buffalo Chip is welcoming veterans, families, friends, and community members to help place 800 American flags in the Freedom Field at the Buffalo Chip CrossRoads. The ceremony is designed to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting the United States.

The evening begins with a social gathering at 5 p.m., followed by a welcome and ceremony instructions at 5:30 p.m. The official Flag Placing Ceremony will begin at 6 p.m., as volunteers work together to create a moving memorial of American flags in remembrance of the nation’s fallen service members.

The event will feature keynote remarks from U.S. Senator Mike Rounds and South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley, along with several special moments throughout the evening. Attendees will also experience a performance of the National Anthem by Kaya Foote, an invocation from Debra Whitman, the traditional Tolling of the Bell in honor of the fallen, a group photo, and a Toast to Our Fallen.

Organizers say the ceremony is an opportunity for the community to come together in gratitude and remembrance while helping create a powerful visual tribute to those who gave everything in service to their country.

Whether you have a personal connection to the military or simply want to show your appreciation for America’s heroes, everyone is encouraged to participate.
