STURGIS, S.D. – Strong winds fueled a grass fire east of Sturgis Thursday afternoon.
The Meade County Sheriff’s Office says the fire was located south and east of Bear Butte, in the area of Gravel Rd and 132nd Avenue on private property.
Fire crews from Sturgis, Whitewood, Vale and Ft Meade were among the agencies battling the Gravel Rd Fire.
The Watch Duty app indicates the fire burned 40 acres before fire crews were able to contain it Thursday evening.
The fire’s cause was under investigation.
