RAPID CITY, S.D. – A local organization that spent 20 years supporting young artists at Rapid City Central High School has officially come to a close.

The Advocates for Creative Theatre Students, known as ACTS, voted unanimously to dissolve the organization effective July 1, 2026.

The decision follows the retirements of Central High Theatre educators Justin Speck and Joey Lore. The two co-founders started ACTS in 2006 to expand opportunities for theatre students through fundraising and community support in the Rapid City area.

Over its two decades of service, the organization provided funding for theatre workshops, guest artists, community productions, special events, scholarships, and educational travel experiences for local students.

In keeping with its mission, all remaining ACTS funds will be gifted to the future of the Central High School Theatre program, its incoming directors, and its students.

“ACTS was never about an organization – it was about students,” Speck said. “We are incredibly grateful to the families, community members, volunteers, donors, and board members who believed in the power of theatre education and made these opportunities possible.”

While the organization is dissolving, members of the board stated they remain committed to supporting the Rapid City theatre community and encouraging the next generation of student artists.
