CUSTER, S.D. – Custer County Search and Rescue was busy on Saturday, responding to multiple calls.

The first was for a horseback riding incident south of Custer around 11 a.m. for which the rider required a life flight to Rapid City.

The second came in at 2:15 p.m. for a hiker suffering from heat exhaustion.

The third was at 8 p.m. for a hiker lost in Wind Cave National Park. Thanks to a direct 911 call from the trail, dispatch obtained precise GPS coordinates, allowing the ground team to navigate directly to their location in short order.

Custer County Search and Rescue says they commend everyone involved in the situations and that being prepared is what made the difference in all three outcomes.
