Danny’s Jam, the annual music festival that has become a fixture of the Black Hills summer, returns to Recreational Springs Resort in Lead on July 17 and 18 for its sixth year.
The two-day festival brings together regional and local musicians for a weekend built around live music, community and charitable giving. Organizers say the event has grown steadily since it started, drawing music lovers, families and longtime supporters from across South Dakota.
At its heart, Danny’s Jam is a celebration of one man. The festival honors the life and legacy of Dan Sherrill, a husband, father, teacher, coach and musician remembered for his love of music and his commitment to helping others. The weekend reflects the things he cared about most, pairing a packed lineup of performances with a mission to give back.
Proceeds from the festival support causes that mirror Sherrill’s values. Money raised goes toward a scholarship fund, donations to a grief camp for children who have lost a parent or sibling, and other charitable efforts rooted in education, music and community.
Over its first five years, Danny’s Jam has built a loyal following through word of mouth, community partnerships and regional promotion. What started as a way to remember a beloved local figure has turned into one of the area’s most anticipated summer gatherings, offering a welcoming atmosphere where neighbors can reconnect and support a good cause at the same time.
For attendees, the appeal is simple. It is a chance to hear great music in one of the most scenic corners of the Black Hills while helping kids and families in the Rapid City region and beyond.
Danny’s Jam takes place July 17 and 18 at Recreational Springs Resort in Lead. More information, including this year’s lineup and ticket details, is available at dannysjam.com.
