RAPID CITY — Two weeks remain for prospective candidates seeking positions on the Rapid City Common Council to submit petitions for this June’s municipal election.
March 24 is the deadline to file petitions for the June 2 municipal election. One position in each of Rapid City’s five wards is up for election. Election packets containing petitions and information on election requirements and deadlines are available at the City’s Finance Office at City Hall, 300 Sixth Street.
As of Monday morning, Ward One City Council member Josh Biberdorf has submitted enough validated signatures to be placed on the election ballot. A total of 50 validated signatures are required for a candidate to be verified for placement on the June 2 ballot.
Candidates for the Rapid City Council will be seeking three-year terms. The Council positions currently held by incumbents Josh Biberdorf (Ward 1), Lindsey Seachris (Ward 2), Kevin Maher (Ward 3), John Roberts (Ward 4) and Rod Pettigrew (Ward 5) will be on the ballot this election cycle.
Candidates are required to receive a majority of votes cast in the June 2 election in order to be elected to office. If a runoff election is needed to determine a winner in any of the five Council races, the runoff election will be held June 23
