DEADWOOD, S.D. — Deadwood is rolling out a new holiday tradition this weekend with its first Kringle Crawl Weekend, a two-day celebration mixing Christmas cheer with shopping, themed cocktails and the town’s well-known pub crawl culture.
Jesse Allen with the Deadwood Chamber stopped by The Roadhouse Show to share what locals and visitors can expect from the festive kickoff. He said the event is similar to Deadwood’s popular Saint Patrick’s Day pub crawl but with a holiday twist, complete with Santa suits, ugly sweaters and a full weekend of activities.
The event begins Friday evening with the Christmas Cocktail Crawl, featuring 15 to 16 stops offering over-the-top holiday drinks, including gingerbread martinis, Grinch punch and peppermint shots. All samples are included with the ticket price, and many businesses will continue offering their specialty cocktails throughout the weekend.
On Saturday, ticket holders can take advantage of the Santa Shop Around, which includes exclusive discounts at downtown retail shops. Allen said the variety of participating businesses makes it easy to finish last-minute holiday shopping, whether visitors want beer and wine, candy, boutique items or motorcycle-themed gifts.
The Kringle Crawl Pub Crawl runs from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday and leads into the Kringle Ball, an after-party with a DJ, drink specials and contests for best dressed, ugliest sweater and clan of the year. Attendees are welcome to show up in whatever festive attire they’ve worn throughout the day.
Allen encouraged participants to make a full weekend of it by booking a hotel room, enjoying dinner on Friday, sampling cocktails, finishing their shopping Saturday and partying the night away at the Kringle Ball.
All events take place in downtown Deadwood, and tickets are available at Deadwood.com or through Eventbrite.
