BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. – We’re learning more about a case involving a Belle Fourche man who is facing charges in connection with a shooting in Newcastle, Wyoming.

The shooting left Jason Greene of Newcastle dead and Drake Ingalls of Belle Fourche with murder charges.

Court documents indicate the incident started with a date between Ingalls and a woman from Newcastle.

She then directed Ingalls to take her to Greene’s home after receiving a text message from him in which he called her a slur.

Court documents, however, show Interview statements from Ingalls and the witness differ as to what happened at Greene’s residence.

Ingalls claims that after a few minutes, he heard the witness yelling for help from inside the residence, according to court documents. Ingalls said he took his handgun to the residence, where he saw Greene with his arms hooked under the witness’s armpits and another arm on the back of her head.

Ingalls demanded that Greene release the witness and shot him when he did not release her, according to documents.

The witness claims that Greene never assaulted her and that the two were not in any physical fight. The witness said that Ingalls “did not need to shoot that gun at all,” documents said.

Ingalls, 24, is charged with murder in the second degree for the death of Greene.

A cash bond of $250,000 with conditions was set for Ingalls. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
